Francis Ngannou has been told by his own former trainer that he has no chance of beating Tyson Fury.
UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou has made his intentions clear that he wants to box Fury in what would be a heavyweight blockbuster.
Ngannou, the world record holder for the most powerful punch, has one more fight on his UFC contract before he is set to become a free agent.
He has dominated the heavyweight division in the UFC as of late – with five consecutive wins all coming by way of an early knockout with his simply outrageous power.
However, the man who first convinced him to try Mixed Martial Arts has accused Ngannou of looking for a quick payday in a boxing bout with the Gypsy King.
Ferland Lopez, who now trains Ciryl Gane – Ngannou’s upcoming opponent at UFC 270 next weekend – believes his former charge will be no match for for Fury.
Speaking to Betway, Lopez said: “Ngannou would need to quit MMA and train for three years to compete in boxing with Tyson Fury. He just wants to cash out.
“Ngannou cannot challenge the stamina or endurance of Tyson Fury.
“If Ngannou leaves the UFC and he’s not the champion – no matter which company he wants to go to – it won’t look good”.
Lopez had become a friend of Ngannou’s when the Cameroonian first moved out of his home country, travelling to France to become a professional fighter.
After seeing him in a gym in Paris, Lopez convinced Ngannou to move from boxing to MMA – coaching him as he would move over to the United States to fight in the UFC.
However, Ngannou parted ways of Lopez in 2020, claiming that the coach “wanted fame and wanted the spotlight.”
Lopez controversially joined up with Gane in 2021.
